What it is
The Blue Cave (Plava Špilja) is a double-mouthed sea cave on the outer, Adriatic-facing side of the Luštica peninsula, near Žanjice. Light entering below the waterline reflects off the pale bottom, so the whole interior glows blue.
There is no land access. Every visit is by boat, and small craft can enter the cave itself when the sea is calm.
Timing and conditions
Mornings give the strongest colour and the fewest boats. From late morning in July and August the cave can be busy, and skippers often queue to enter.
The cave is exposed to swell from the open sea. On windy days entry may not be safe and we reroute the day inside the bay — your skipper decides on the water.
Combining it with the rest of the day
Most itineraries pair the cave with the Žanjice and Mirište swim stops, the abandoned Mamula island fortress, and the old submarine tunnels cut into the cliffs nearby.
